The Myspace Fear

My Blog has been moved to Wordpress.. CLICK HERE to check it out.
Looking back on old photos is supposed to be fun..

Then this happens...
One of my 1st ever selfies... #why #thosebrows

Now reminiscing on old photos can be fun & nostalgic... when its pictures of your parents in high school, or baby pictures or even pictures from just a few years back like I did in my video:

Reacting to Old Facebook Photos

It was funny & interesting to see how I've changed since high school, but those photos although slightly cringe-worthy weren't that bad. I had deleted some embarrassing ones & pondered hard and long prior to posting most of them to Facebook. Unfortunately I wasn't always so cautious about the fact that one day I'd grow up and realize that ages 12-16 were my most awkward & shocking years. But no worries, Myspace was there to remind me of this fact.

Although I deleted or disabled my Myspace page quite a few years back, I recently came across a website called Photobucket. This site was where I saved/edited my myspace photos from years 2006-2009. I upped the saturation & added writing or effects to pictures so they would look "cool beans". All of this was an attempt to get likes and comments on pictures.

Many of you are too young to know what Myspace is...but it was before Facebook & Twitter, before iphones, before camera phones, when you paid per text message, there was 1 desktop computer per household & we all had dial up internet. It was when AIM or AOL instant messaging was the main form of communication, the PINK Motorola Razor was the phone to have, A&F was the only place to shop. It was a blog of sorts, you took surveys & posted the results so the world could see if you like iced tea or lemonade more or preferred texting to talking on the phone. You would post this so people could know pretty much everything about you without actually talking to you, but then if you decided to speak you'd ask these questions purposefully so the other person wouldn't know you stalked their page, when in fact they did the same thing to you. Not only were there surveys but you could add your favorite songs (mine was Gone So Young by Amber Pacific for most of my Myspace days - still a good song), photos of things you liked or found interesting & you could even have a unique layout & background. You could make your text bold or italicized using html formatting. It was wicked in those days.

Now the point of this post isn't just to inform you on the awesomeness of Myspace in the dark ages, but to go through some of the worst & most mortifying images I found on Photobucket (the picture above isn't the worst, by far).. which made it quite clear why I deleted my Myspace & purged every memory of these photos from my computer.. or so I thought.
*WARNING* --- Lots of selfies (before they were a thing) & classic mirror pics ---

Here we go....

Okay so I don't know why I'm even attempting to explain this. WHY ON EARTH didn't I clean my mirror... It looks liked it hasn't been cleaned since 1996 & like I probably popped 6 million zits into it (TMI I know.. sorry). I didn't have cleavage yet, but apparently liked to pretend I did by wearing VS PINK push up bras & low cut knit shirts from A&F (the coolest place from 2003-2008). I also believe I had just gotten my first pair of glasses ever.. which were reading glasses, so I assume I thought I looked smart or something like that. I also just cut my own bangs so horribly I don't know why my mother let me touch scissors. And we can't forget those eyebrows! I was around the age I knew I should pluck the unibrow & so I did & more.. much more. I went crazy & plucked about halfway into my eye brows & this took about 6 years to grow back.. Lovely. And lets just talk about the duck face! What was wrong with me that I thought this was cool? & oh of course there are about 25 more pictures just like this with minor changes such as, camera higher, camera lower, headband to hide my chopped bangs, no glasses, smiling with my mouth shut due to my mouth of silver braces, looking at myself in the mirror or looking at the camera. & then there are about 10 more of this photo in a selfie format.. seriously hoping I didn't post ALL of these to my page.. no wonder only like 4 out of my Top 8 were actually my friends.

There are so many photos & I don't know which to show.. so let's pick randomly

Well for some reason this happened.. & I remember the exact moment it did. I got that hat for a cowgirl themed party, then when my friend came over I asked her to take a picture of me wearing it (I must have thought I looked good that day! HAHAHA) So I was wearing jeans from A&F kids, a brown tank top from A&F & a cropped tan sweater from A&F kids... I remember loving that sweater.. I totally liked the cropped look before it was a trend! Well in some way.. this sweater just looks like it shrunk in the dryer, not like it was made to be cropped & stylish. Oh and of course I was wearing pigtails because you can't wear a cowgirl hat without pigtails, I mean come on.

I wanted a Christmasy profile picture at some point, but instead of asking a friend or family member to take a picture of me in front of the tree or a snowman or ANYTHING BUT THIS I did this.. I had a photo shoot of selfies in my almost-white-but-really-dirty-white A&F vest and made a face that looked like I was having fun. I guess I wanted a candid shot of me smiling/embarrassing myself in a selfie.. like okay??? I wanted a candid selfie. A CANDID SELFIE! WTF?! & lets not forget to mention the photoshopped Santa hat... I'm sorry I couldn't just wear one of the 6 or 7 I have, NO of course not. I had to be a weirdo and photoshop a Santa hat onto my head. I actually remember this exact moment of placing it on my head and turning it every which way so it looked natural. Which it never did. I don't think kids these days do this.. do they? I don't think kids those days did it either actually, just me.

Last but certainly not least we have...

What I remember being my most liked myspace profile picture.. WHY? Why did people encourage this? I scrunched my hair with Tresemme curling mousse, I then straightened my AWFUL-self-cut bangs. I over did it on the blurring effect so you could see even one imperfection. I made the ever popular duck face.. which was protruding even more because my braces so I looked extra gangster/ghetto.. that was totally the look to go far... The BEST part... the peace sign, the reversed peace sign.. not the cute one that Baby Spice did. No of course not. It was the I'm so cool I don't give a SH*T but clearly I do because I'm taking a picture of myself doing this peace sign...

That's enough embarrassing photos for a lifetime...

What we can take away from this post is:
1. I only wore clothes from A&F as a tween
2. Think before you upload ALL your pictures
3. The Duck Face was a thing & still is
4. Clean your mirror before attempting a mirror pic
